Plywood is a commonly used man-made board as one of the main materials for making furniture. It is mainly a plate-like material that glues three or more layers (usually an odd-numbered veneer) of thin plates together using adhesives. The veneers are usually glued perpendicularly to each other in the direction of the wood grain fibers of adjacent layers. Using glued veneer, we will press the slabs crisscrossed according to the wood grain direction under heating or without heating. Three-layer plywood is common in the market. The structure of three-layer plywood is sturdy and durable and can be used for furniture decoration and other purposes. So the five-layer is stronger than the three-layer. By analogy, the more layers of plywood, the stronger and thicker the thickness. Multi-layer plywood can be used for external engineering purposes such as roofs. Plywood is usually used in automobiles, trains, airplanes, ships, buildings, and other functional materials. The size that can be found in the general market is 1220×2440mm, and the thickness is generally: 3mm, 5mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, etc. We use these tree species: beech, camphor, willow, poplar, eucalyptus, etc.
The main advantage of plywood is its appearance, its lines are visible, lightweight, so it is easy to construct. Besides, its structural strength is high, and the transverse grain tensile strength is good, and it is not easy to deform. But plywood is not as strong and smooth as MDF board.

What are the general types of plywood?
According to the degree of gluing, we can classify plywood into the following three types:
Type I (NQF)-Plywood resistant to high temperature, weather, and boiling water. This type of plywood has good durability and resistance to boiling or steam treatment and can be used outdoors.
Type II (Ns)-Waterproof plywood. This type of plywood can withstand immersion in cold water or short-term hot water, but it is not resistant to boiling water.
Type â…¢ (Nc)-Plywood can only withstand short-term cold water immersion and is suitable for use at room temperature.
Type â…£ (BNS)-Plywood is not resistant to any moisture.
Type of Plywood
1. Softwood Plywood
Softwood plywood is called softwood because they are all made of cork, which includes redwood, pine, and other cork. This kind of softwood plywood is not suitable for outdoor use, because it does not have the characteristics of weather resistance. Softwood plywood is only suitable for some temporary shelves and sheds.
2. Hardwood Plywood
Hardwood plywood is mainly made of dicotyledonous plants or hardwoods with multiple layers. Hardwoods include maple, oak, birch, walnut, etc. The advantages of hardwood plywood mainly include smooth surface, high hardness, strong appearance, abrasion resistance, and high impact resistance. It is suitable for manufacturing furniture, doors, musical instruments, boxes, and other applications that require sturdiness.
3. Marine Plywood
Marine plywood is mainly made of high-quality tropical hardwoods, such as western larch. Marine plywood is a kind of high water-resistant plywood formed by hot pressing the surface board impregnated with phenolic resin glue and the core board coated with phenolic resin glue. The main features of the board are waterproof and anti-fungal properties and can be used in humid environments. Mainly used in the manufacture of ship parts, besides, it can also be used to make outdoor furniture.
4. Lumber Core Plywood
Lumber core plywood is mainly composed of two hardwood thin plywood, and thick core clamps with a solid board in the middle. The inner core of the lumber core plywood can be firmly fastened with screws and is suitable for use as a shelf in a cabinet.
5. Aircraft Plywood
Aircraft gluing is made of strong hardwood and adhesives. Hardwood choices include birch, mahogany, and so on. The outer layer of aircraft plywood is a very thin veneer. Therefore, the characteristics of aircraft plywood are durable, lightweight, and resistant to heat and humidity. This type of plywood is suitable for manufacturing furniture, airplanes, ships, etc. that need to bear heavyweight.
6. Overlaid Plywood
Overlaid plywood has a more beautiful appearance than other plywood, and its veneer is also waterproof and scratch-resistant. Like other plywood, the wood produced includes maple, mahogany, oak, birch, and other hardwoods. If you are looking for decorative plywood, you can choose this overlaid plywood.

How to choose plywood

1) Different types and materials of plywood must be selected according to factors such as the nature of our project, the environment and the location of use.
2) If it is used for decoration purposes, we should choose some precious wood sliced veneer veneer plywood.
4) In a damp environment, it is necessary to choose plywood with waterproof performance.
