PTFE
Polytetrafluoroethylene is usually abbreviated as PTFE. PTFE is a high molecular polymer made with tetrafluoroethylene as a monomer polymer. It is also a white, translucent, non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless powder. PTFE has many advantages, for example, it has excellent high temperature resistance, chemical stability, corrosion resistance, airtightness, aging resistance, high lubrication, non-stick properties, airtightness, and electrical insulation. The following describes some of the main features of PTFE:
1. High-temperature resistance
PTFE has excellent high-temperature resistance and low-temperature resistance. The highest temperature can reach 260°C, and the lowest temperature can be -180°C. It can maintain good mechanical toughness in this temperature range for a long time. But when the temperature exceeds the high-temperature range that it can withstand, its mechanical strength will also disappear. Although PTFE does not have a real melting point, it will begin to slowly decompose and then become a gas when it reaches 450°C or higher.
2. Chemical resistance and corrosion resistance
PTFE has strong corrosion and chemical resistance. It can withstand any strong acid, strong alkali, and various organic solvents. It is inert to these chemical solvents, hardly corroded by any substance, and insoluble in all chemical solvents.
3. Anti-aging
PTFE has good weather resistance and resistance to aging. It is the material with the longest life in plastics.
4. High lubricity
Since PTFE has no slippery and sticky properties, it has the lowest surface tension and friction coefficient of all solid materials. It does not adhere to any substance, and its static and dynamic coefficients are equal. PTFE is suitable to be used as an ideal coating for tasks that require lubrication or for cleaning the inner layer of water pipes.
PTFE has many advantages, so it is deeply loved by the broad market. PTFE is often used in chemical processing, food industry, electrical and electronic industries.
1. Electrical and Electronics Industry
PTFE has good insulating properties. It is usually used as a winding between wires and cables, as a sheath for wires and cables, and as a conductive surface in separate electrical appliances.
2. Chemical processing industry
PTFE is a corrosion-resistant and chemically inert material. It is not affected by any strong acids, and alkalis. It can be used to make seals, gaskets, rings, gaskets, and other industrial accessories.
3. Semiconductor industry
Because PTFE has high-temperature resistance, it can be made into the required equipment in the chip after high temperature.
4. Pharmaceutical industry
Non-toxic and odorless PTFE is suitable for making medicine jars or cosmetic jars. Because its surface is smooth, and there are no dents.
Is there any difference between PTFE and Teflon?
According to the above information about PTFE, we can know that polytetrafluoroethylene is a synthetic polymer, mainly composed of two elements, carbon, and fluorine. PTFE is a very durable material, so it is widely used in industrial, commercial, and household applications.
The main characteristics of PTFE are strong water resistance, high melting point, strong corrosion resistance, low friction coefficient, and high bending strength. Usually, we use PTFE as one of the materials in chemical industrial engineering or steel engineering. It can also be used to make nail polish, cooking utensils, and wiper blades and other supplies, and tools.
Teflon™ Teflon™, also known as polytetrafluoroethylene, which is a registered trademark of PTFE, so there is no difference between Teflon™ and PTFE.
PTFE coating is a popular non-stick fluoropolymer coating. Its coating is very thin, but it can work continuously at 150°C. Due to the low coefficient of friction of the PTFE coating, it has good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. PTFE coatings are commonly used in many industrial applications, such as coatings on medical equipment, non-stick surfaces, outer layers of cables, and some industrial parts. Several features of PTFE coating are listed below:
1. Non-stickiness: PTFE coating is very thin and non-sticky, so it is difficult for any substance to adhere to the surface of PTFE coating.
2. High heat resistance: PTFE coating has an excellent heat resistance and high stability. It can withstand high temperatures up to 300°C. In addition, it can also be used in low-temperature environments.
3. Wear resistance: PTFE coating has a low coefficient of friction, so it can maintain good sliding properties under heavy loads and is resistant to friction.
4. Corrosion resistance: PTFE coating is not corroded by any chemicals.
5. Moisture resistance: When we coat PTFE on the surface, its surface is not wet. If there is any dirt on the surface, it is very easy to remove.
