Introduction to PE Storage Tank

PE Storage Tank

Polyethylene (referred to as PE) storage tank is made of polyethylene as the raw material, which is formed on a rotomolding mold to form a storage tank. Polyethylene can be divided into linear low-density polyethylene LLDPE and high-density polyethylene HDPE. Low-density polyethylene storage tanks can withstand media up to 60°C, while high-density polyethylene storage tanks can withstand a higher temperature of 70°C. Polyethylene storage tanks have many characteristics, such as non-toxicity, corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, strong pressure resistance, UV resistance, no welding gaps, long service life, lightweight, and easy handling.

Due to the tasteless, non-toxic, and odorless nature of polyethylene storage tanks, many people use them as a container for storing clean water. Polyethylene storage tanks are cheaper than ordinary storage tanks and are suitable for storing corrosive media. Therefore, in addition to using polyethylene storage tanks to store drinking water, it is also welcomed by farmers and some commercial enterprises. They use polyethylene storage tanks to store other media, such as fertilizers and pesticides. Generally, polyethylene storage tanks are very durable and can be used for up to 20 years or even longer, depending on various natural and man-made factors.

Polyethylene storage tanks are the most economical and most diversified storage tanks. Compared with ordinary steel storage tanks, polyethylene storage tanks can withstand higher impact capacity, corrosion resistance, and rust resistance. Polyethylene storage tanks are mainly made of polyethylene chemicals through plastic welding. The manufacture of polyethylene storage tanks requires a steel tank mold, in which the plastic powder is filled, and then heated and rotated to melt the plastic. But after the plastic has melted and cooled, we can take out the new storage tank.

The main usage of Polyethylene tank

Polyethylene storage tanks appear in a variety of industries, and they are widely used to store various substances. For example, some organic acids, inorganic acids, agricultural fertilizers, drinking water, wastewater, petroleum and natural gas, water, medicine, industrial liquids, vegetable oils, etc. However, polyethylene storage tanks cannot be used to store highly corrosive or strong acid chemicals, because these chemical elements will corrode the structure of polyethylene and shorten the service life of the polyethylene storage tank.

Advantages of Polyethylene Tank

The polyethylene storage tank is one of the most popular storage tanks, the main features are as follows:

1. The manufacturing cost is low, so the selling price is relatively low.

2. There are a variety of colors and styles to choose from, to design for different environments and people's preferences.

3. Lightweight, easy to transport and install.

4. Polyethylene is a recyclable material.

High-density Polyethylene Tank

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) storage tanks generally have the following characteristics:

1. Strong hardness and tensile strength.

2. Good wear resistance, durability, cold resistance, electrical insulation, and toughness.

3. At room temperature, it does not contain any acid-base substances, organic substances, etc.

4. The smooth interior is easy to clean.

Disadvantages:

1. The water vapor and air have low water absorption and permeability.

2. It has poor aging resistance and needs to be improved by adding antioxidants.

Based on the above advantages and disadvantages, we use odorless and non-toxic HDPE storage tanks to store drinking water, wastewater, and some food. Most of the HDPE storage tanks are black, so they can prevent light from leaking into the storage tank, which will deteriorate the liquid in the storage tank and reduce the growth of algae.

Comparison between the concrete tank, fiberglass tank, and polyethylene tank

Concrete tanks are generally popular in the market in the form of a circle or a square. Most concrete storage tanks are used for underground engineering or commercial purposes. The concrete storage tank has a long service life and is very durable. Because most of the interior of the concrete storage tank is made of steel. But the only disadvantage is that when the internal steel bars are corroded, it will cause problems such as cracks in the concrete storage tank.

The fiberglass storage tank is made of high-quality glass fiber and additives. It has good stability, safety, practicability, corrosion resistance, durability, anti-combustion performance, etc. It is the best choice for drainage system operations or construction engineering operations. However, due to their lightweight and thin tank walls, fiberglass storage tanks are susceptible to damage and rupture due to environmental changes or man-made damage.

In contrast, the advantages of polyethylene storage tanks are much more than those of the above two storage tanks, but each storage tank has its advantages and disadvantages. We also need to choose a relatively suitable storage tank according to our engineering operations and environmental conditions.
